Abstract
Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) provides colour in the independence movement in the Japanese colonial era. As an organization with the largest network up to the village level, NU put da’wah strategy to get the chance to build strength Islamic boarding School (pesantren) and clerics or Kyai for subsequent use against the occupation. In this case, NU does not put frontally opposite position, but chose against the Japanese policy of soft diplomacy that seeks to use the power of Islam for political and economic interests in the face of the West.
Abstraksi
