Abstract
Differences of opinion in Islam ic teachings are a necessity, but differences in Muslims in the implementation of worship which have a very broad social impact and concern the interests of the nation and state, such as the fasting of Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha are very urgent to be united. This research "Examining the Arguments of the Hisab and Rukyat Methods in the Perspective of Contextual Interpretation" aims to find the root of the problem which is the source of the difference between the reckoning and rukyat methods. This research method is qualitative-discritive with reference to library and journal data. This research produces and finds; that the two methods of reckoning argue on the verses of the Qur'an and as-Sunnah with a contextual interpretation approach, while the rukyat method argues on the verses of the Koran and hadith which are interpreted with a textual approach. Conclusion ; The Hisab method uses the arguments of the verses of the Qur'an and as-Sunnah with contextual interpretation methods with arguments, that Muslims at the time of the Prophet had not mastered science and astronomy, while Muslims now have mastered science, astronomy and astronomy. while the rukyat method uses the textual interpretation method, with the argument that the command to see the new moon (rukyatul hilal) is ta'abbudi (worship), then the arguments of the verses of the Koran and as-Sunnah cannot be interpreted contextually, but must be interpreted textually.
