Main Article Content
Abstract
The Qur'an is a holy book full of values of tolerance, various verses about empowering women's rights are found in the content of the Qur'an. However, in fact, discriminatory treatment of women and the understanding of gender bias within Muslims still often occur. The purpose of this study is to describe tolerance in the perspective of the interpretation of the Qur'an and its implementation in empowering women's rights. The method used is qualitative. The focus of this research is to present an interpretation of the concept of tolerance in the Qur'an and its implementation in empowering women's rights to work, study rights, and political rights. The results of the study show: First, the values of tolerance taught by the Qur'an are not limited to internal Muslims, but also across peoples. Second, mutual assistance between husband and wife in covering their economic needs is permissible, even recommended in Islam, a sign that women will be allowed to work. Third, with regard to learning, women in Islam not only have the right, but also the obligation. Fourth, politics is an effective and efficient forum for women in the context of amar makruf nahi munkar. The results of this study are expected to be an enlightenment that Islamic teachings are not discriminatory against women, on the contrary Islamic teachings uphold fair and natural equality between women and men.
