Abstract

Freedom to Learn-Independent Campus (MBKM) is one of education policies implemented by Indonesian government. Plenty of investigations focusing on MBKM policy and its implementation has been conducted. However, the degree to which did guidebooks of MBKM published by the Ministry of Education of Culture and the Ministry of Religious Affairs consider Islamic philantrophy programs as an MBKM’s humanitarian project and Indonesian universities develop these programs an MBKM’s humanitarian project have been under-researched. This article is specified to discuss these issues based on the library research using data derived from the documents and articles published by journals and the mass media. It reveals that these guidebooks did not yet consider Islamic philanthropy projects as an MBKM’s humanitarian project. In consideration of this, I would like to argue that Indonesian universities, including PTKIN and PTKIS, need to formulate an MBKM guidebook that considers Islamic philantrophy programs as an MBKM’s humanitarian project. The study programs and faculty associated with each of these universities shall develop such Islamic philantrophy programs within their own MBKM curriculum based on the inter and transdisciplinary studies, seek advices from the stakeholders or potential partners who are willingly to support these programs and implement this curriculum using effective credit transfer system. Taking such efforts may help them to not merely allow the students getting the real benefits from the implementation of MBKM policy, but also give the Indonesian Islamic people who suffered from humanitarian disasters large opportunities to get humanitarian aids.
