Abstract
This paper responds to the mosque empowerment discourse which moves superficially, by directly entering the area of empowerment and mosque productivity without emphasizing the importance of the realization aspect at the personal level which is the center of improvement. This realization at the personal level demands to reveal the meaning of human beings mistico-philosophically. Departing from human identity and its forms of manifestation, only then can we understand the meaning of the mosque. The function of the mosque as a center for spiritual worship and education is generally limited to the study of fiqh which contains manuals for the implementation of outward shari'a worship. Meanwhile, the mental axis of personality, namely the esoteric phenomenon of the human heart, is not placed in its fundamental place. The implication is to empower humans who are weak in personality, through worship, will encounter many obstacles. Because the human heart must worship, not only physically, the human heart also has a place of prostration (mosque). This paper seeks to reinterpret the meaning of the mosque so that it can become a fundamental principle for mosque empowerment programs. This literature qualitative research uses a philosophical Sufism approach (mistico-philosophy of Islam) to interpret historical anthropological data.
