The practice of Islamic philanthropy in higher education has been developed in various forms, in line with the political democratization and Islamisation after the fall of the New Order. This article analyzes the mapping growth, characteristics, contribution, and challenges of philanthropic practices within universities. This article is based on qualitative research in contemporary Social History. This article discusses the phenomenon of Islamic philanthropy institutions in higher education, following the modernization and Islamization, and positions of universities as civil society. Through in-depth interviews, FGDs, document studies and observation, the authors find that practices of Islamic philanthropy have a significant growth within universities, both in public and private, either secular or Islamic universities, mainly in Java island. The authors find a total number of 51 charitable or philanthropic organizations which have been established within universities, have a diversity in its forms and formation influenced by its own context. These practices are the result of Islamisation and democratization movements that are not only dedicated for strengthening higher educational institutions but also for social welfare and humanitarian purposes. During the Covid-19 pandemics, the practices were becoming stronger. However, the contestation between the state and civil society which has existed in the national level is found also in university level, and becomes one of significant challenges for the pace of development of philanthropy practices in universities.

Keywords:

Indonesia; Islamic philanthropy; reformation, university, civil society, contestation
Amelia Fauzia Amelia Fauzia Sudarnoto Abdul Hakim Sudarnoto Abdul Hakim Haryo Mojopahit Haryo Mojopahit Gita Safitri Gita Safitri Copyright (c) 2023 Jurnal Bimas Islam https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2023-12-29 2023-12-29 16 2 281 312 10.37302/jbi.v16i2.807 Peran Audit Syariah dalam Meningkatkan Akuntabilitas pada Organisasi Pengelola Zakat https://jurnalbimasislam.kemenag.go.id/jbi/article/view/1076
Sharia audit is one way to maintain and ensure the integrity of zakat management financial institutions in carrying out sharia principles. Sharia audit can provide assurance to stakeholders and is urgently needed to respond to developments in the Islamic finance industry. The purpose of this research is to describe the role of Islamic audit in increasing accountability in Zakat Management Organizations. This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The validity of the data is done by technical triangulation. The results of the study show that based on the Regulation of the Minister of Religion (PMA) Number 606 of 2020, Sharia Audit must be carried out in a comprehensive, accurate, transparent and accountable manner, therefore there is a need for Sharia Audit guidelines for reports on the Implementation of the Management of Zakat, Infaq, Charity and Religious Social other. Broadly speaking, there are many weaknesses in terms of governance, dual control, transparency & administration in the management of Zakat Management Organizations, so that optimization of the implementation of sharia audits by the Ministry of Religion can be expanded to cover Zakat Management Organizations audited in order to increase the accountability of Zakat Management Organizations.

Keywords: Sharia Audit, Accountability, Zakat Management Organization
Umiyati Umiyati muhibudin muhibudin Habibullah Habibullah Rini Rini Copyright (c) 2023 Jurnal Bimas Islam https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2023-12-29 2023-12-29 16 2 313 342 10.37302/jbi.v16i2.1076 Dakwah melalui Distribusi Zakat dan Dampaknya pada Implementasi Keagamaan Muallaf di Indonesia https://jurnalbimasislam.kemenag.go.id/jbi/article/view/784
This study explores the level of Islamic practice for Muallaf assisted by the Zakat Management Institute (LPZ) in Indonesia, which receive zakat funds. In addition, this study will also analyse the relationship between the level of zakat distribution and the level of religious practice, with the main focus on using the allocation of zakat funds to strengthen faith and practice Islamic values. This study uses quantitative methods involving as many as 135 converts as respondents. The descriptive statistical method describes the impact of zakat distributed by LPZ to asnaf Muallaf as zakat recipients. The results of this study indicate that the level of distribution of zakat and religious practice is positively related and shows high coefficient values of 4.45 and 4.63. Then, if viewed based on the correlation between the distribution of zakat and spiritual preparation for converts, it is significantly high. Therefore, the Zakat Management Institute (LPZ) can optimise the empowerment of zakat for converts.
muhammad choirin Rizaludin Kurniawan Dion Saputra Arbi Ahmad A'toa' Bin Mokhtar Copyright (c) 2023 Jurnal Bimas Islam https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2023-12-29 2023-12-29 16 2 343 362 10.37302/jbi.v16i2.784 De-Islamophobia Melalui Pilar Moderasi Beragama Perspektif Al-Qur’an https://jurnalbimasislam.kemenag.go.id/jbi/article/view/954
This paper will examine the pillars of religious moderation in the Koran in relation to tackling the problem of Islamophobia both from within and outside of Islam. Searching for the cornerstones of moderation in the Koran uses the thematic method. Namely: First, determining the theme. In this case, is religious moderation. Second: tracing the verses that talk about religious moderation, then drawing several points from it which in the author's observation contain the central teachings (pillars) about religious moderation. Third: each pillar is discussed and developed by referring to relevant references, especially works of interpretation, then contextualized in such a way as to be in line with Indonesian and contemporary dynamics related to efforts to overcome Islamophobia. From the search and discussion of verses related to religious moderation, at least three pillars for religious moderation were found, namely: wasathiyah, samahah, and hiwar.
Nur Arfiyah Febriani Abad Badruzaman Copyright (c) 2023 Jurnal Bimas Islam https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2023-12-29 2023-12-29 16 2 363 396 10.37302/jbi.v16i2.954 Peran Masjid dalam Penyebaran Toleransi https://jurnalbimasislam.kemenag.go.id/jbi/article/view/1080
Islam is a religion that does not close itself to diversity, Islamic teachings make tolerance an attitude in dealing with differences, this attitude is reflected in Islamic principles which believe that religion is not something that can be forced and then confirmed through the sacred doctrine that there is no compulsion in religion. The mosque has its own privileges in the Islamic world, the function of the mosque cannot be reduced only as a place of worship, more than that the mosque plays an important role in the spread of Islam through da'wah. Islam encourages da'wah to be carried out gently by withholding messages of peace and tolerance. This study aims to understand the contribution of mosques in spreading tolerance by using a literature review methodology. The results of the study show that mosques have an important role in spreading tolerance, the spread of tolerance through mosques is realized because mosques function as da'wah centers in the Islamic world. The preaching of tolerance is packaged in two forms, namely preaching tolerance verbally and preaching tolerance in action. In the long run, the message of tolerance that is often conveyed through mosques is expected to be able to maintain the harmony of life among religious communities and the nation which consists of various religious and ethnic backgrounds.
Baeti Rohman Fikri Maulana Zaenal Abidin Riam ahmad juraidi Copyright (c) 2023 Jurnal Bimas Islam https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2023-12-29 2023-12-29 16 2 397 420 10.37302/jbi.v16i2.1080 Urgensi Fatwa dan Sidang Isbat dalam Penentuan Awal Bulan Kamariah di Indonesia https://jurnalbimasislam.kemenag.go.id/jbi/article/view/929
This study examines the urgency of fatwas and isbat hearings in determining the beginning of the month of Kamariah in Indonesia. MUI issued MUI Fatwa in 1981 and MUI Fatwa No. 2 of 2004, which contains the initial determination of Ramadan, Shawwal, and Dhul-Hijjah, where all Muslims in Indonesia are obliged to obey Government decrees carried out through isbat sessions. However, many still need to obey the provisions of the Government. This research answers two formulations of the problem. First, what is the urgency of the MUI Fatwa and Isbat Council in determining the beginning of the month of Kamariah in Indonesia? Second, how much did the MUI Fatwa and Isbat Council contribute to unifying the beginning of the month of Kamariah in Indonesia? The descriptive-analytical method with a fiqh Falak approach answers both problem formulations. The study yielded two findings. First, the urgency of the MUI Fatwa and the Isbat Assembly is a form of the responsibility of scholars and the Government to the Indonesian people to create togetherness, provide certainty of opinion, and minimize differences and conflicts. Second, the MUI Fatwa is a step and initial foothold for the Government to set criteria for the beginning of the month of Kamariah (MABIMS and Neo MABIMS). The Isbat Assembly became a forum for collecting various information, both the results of hisab and reports. Both contribute to efforts to realize the benefits of togetherness during worship.
Siti Tatmainul Qulub Ahmad Munif Copyright (c) 2023 Jurnal Bimas Islam https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2023-12-29 2023-12-29 16 2 423 452 10.37302/jbi.v16i2.929 Analisis Spirit Filantropi Islam Perspektif Aksiologi Max Scheler dalam Konteks Badan Amil Zakat Nasional https://jurnalbimasislam.kemenag.go.id/jbi/article/view/881
This research aims to analyze the concept of Islamic philanthropy from the perspective of Max Scheler's axiology and how the National Zakat Agency can practice Islamic philanthropic values in Indonesia. The research process uses a qualitative method with a literature study approach. The results and discussion show that the concept of Islamic philanthropy in the context of Baznas through its programs, axiologically falls into the category of spiritual and religious value hierarchies from Max Scheler's perspective. The conclusion drawn from the research is that the spirit of Islamic philanthropy has a spiritual and religious basis axiologically, especially through the implementation of Baznas programs in the distribution of zakat, infaq, and shadaqah funds. Recommendations for further research are that a more elaborate method is needed to conduct more detailed research on the strategies applied by Baznas in promoting Islamic philanthropy. This is necessary because this research is limited to only one qualitative approach.
Arip Budiman Busro Busro Ari Farizal Rasyid Copyright (c) 2023 Jurnal Bimas Islam https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2023-12-29 2023-12-29 16 2 453 486 10.37302/jbi.v16i2.881 Peran Penyuluh Agama dalam Mencegah Politisasi Agama Menjelang Tahun Politik 2024 https://jurnalbimasislam.kemenag.go.id/jbi/article/view/1150
Religion is one of the national elements that binds national harmony. Approaching the 2024 political year, various parties contesting in the legislative and executive elections are trying to make various efforts to become winners. One of the efforts to win this contest is to practise politicization of religion. In fact, political experts have agreed that the politicization of religion is not a good thing for a pluralistic country like Indonesia. Therefore, in order to avoid the negative impact of the politicization of religion, various parties, including religion counselors, should try to prevent it. The limited number of articles and research on the role of religion counselors in preventing the negative impact of the politicization of religion prompted the author to focus the research on the role of religion counselors in preventing the negative impact of the politicization of religion. This research seeks to provide insight to religion counselors about their crucial role in preventing the negative impacts of politicization of religion. This research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data taken from a literature study with primary data: Joint Decree among the Minister of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia and the Head of the State Civil Service Agency number: 574 of 1999 and Number: 178 of 1999. The results of this research are that religion counselors have four roles in preventing the negative impacts of politicization of religion, namely: roles informative-educative roles, consultative, advocative and administrative roles.

Achmad Solechan Muhammad Luthfi Zuhdi Muhammad Syauqillah Copyright (c) 2023 Jurnal Bimas Islam https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2023-12-29 2023-12-29 16 2 487 505 10.37302/jbi.v16i2.1150
